Following a lovely few days with mum and the aunts, I'm now home and preparing for our trip to Colonsay.
On our jaunt to New Lanark I did manage to pick up some raspberries, so they've been boiled into jam this morning and are cooling off in labelled jars. All we need to do now is pack the essentials, head for Oban, do a Tesco shop and head for the boat in good time. Doesn't seem much, but when there are three of us and Dougal to fit in!!!!!!

Last night our newest neighbours gave us half a dozen mackerel. It was a lovely gesture. We will reciprocate, perhaps with some raspberry jam if I can find the raspberries!
We have some lovely neighbours and friends here, and I think I managed to speak to most of them during the course of yesterday. I had planned to move garden objects here and there but found myself diverted on numerous occasions to listen and talk. But that's what life's about, being with others and spending time. So the garden can wait, and anyway there's no real need to move the tomato houses and relocate barrels of radishes and bags of flowering tatties. They're fine where they are and growing nicely.I'd probably have overdone the exercise and my body would have complained. Now alas the only complainant is my throat. I wonder why??

This morning is dry at the moment, though rain is forecast.
Having spent most of the week at home, we've decided to have a wee trip to Helensburgh today, something we don't often do. We don't need anything, but will probably enjoy a wander round the shops and a coffee in one of the many cafes.
Next week is going to be very busy, so today and tomorrow will be days to 'chill'.
Colleen from Calgary shared this with me!!!

I've just ordered some memory for a friend's computer. The price at the moment is amazingly little, a far cry from the hundreds of pounds we used to pay a few years ago. My friend doesn't realise how much the added memory will improve her computer's performance. An increase in RAM will have her 'cooking on gas' as we say here in the West of Scotland.
Wouldn't it be good if we could upgrade our own memories so easily? I think I'd need a considerable number of Gigabytes to increase my performance!!
I'm working with a small group of people interested in computing and family history at the moment. The group is developing and I've been persuaded to run a wee class in the autumn for them here on our park. At the moment they're beginning to pick up skills and use those skills to surf the net. They're also beginning to spark memories about their past as they discover more about their own particular family history. This is encouraging them to look further and also to delve back into their own shared memories with other family members. As I try to point them in the right direction,research-wise, I'm always amazed to see how the interest grows and so much enjoyment is gleaned from just sharing memories.
Looking at old photographs or books about places we've lived in can encourage so much in the way of sparking the old grey cells.Smells and sounds too can trigger memories which lead to others and so on.
We may not be able to go on-line and buy a memory upgrade for ourselves, but we can spark those dormant memories into wakefulness. Once with us we can revisit them and enjoy them, especially if shared with others.
Next week, I'm going to be with my mum and aunts. We'll be doing a lot of memory sparking over a couple of days. I'll have my voice recorder with me and plenty of batteries to ensure that anecdotes are saved for future reference!!
