So how many have you made so far this year? Are they big ones or small ones? Will your determination to follow them through last until they are accomplished?
It's easy to make plans and resolutions, but it's not so easy to keep them, so I suppose the most realistic way of embracing a resolution born in a New Year is to make it simple and do-able. Not all resolutions are that easy though. And some demand the assistance of others, which can sometimes be difficult to sustain. But it's good to make them and try.....for as long as you can to make them a reality.
Last year I planned, along with two of my blogging friends, to write the damn book. We began in September, and shot out words on paper. I haven't touched the project in months, but resolve to get back to it over January and February and add another 7,000 words or more to those already drafted.I also plan to add the last few chapters to my Colonsay-based novel and FINISH THE BLESSED THING!!! I have other writing projects; the numerous children's stories; the anthology of poems; the family history pieces etc. etc. If there's time, they'll be aired too.
I'm going to stop there.
That is enough for the next two months.
Anything else, like the mass of family history notes that need to be edited and uploaded onto the web, the necessary website work that needs to be attended to and the paint that is lying ready to be washed onto paper creatively will HAVE TO WAIT!!
I'll continue to blog and MAKE time to read my favourite blogs, but the main focus will be on writing.
So there we are, my resolutions in one easy word... WRITING.

January is with us. The winds of a changing year have favoured us with their presence, quite forcefully. Rain has wakened us and washed away the remnants of an old year. Past is past. We now look forward to lighter nights and new life as we reach towards the enfolding of spring.
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And may God hold you in the hollow of his hand
until we meet again.......

Well, it's almost Christmas week. Rain is still pissing down among the highways and byways of this part of the world. Indeed, we viewed Duck Bay Marina and its environs on Thursday and were amazed to see that the road dyke, some three or four feet high, was level with the level of the loch.
Water is everywhere.
But let's not dwell on the puddles, or inland lochs that they have become. It's time to leave the computer and net behind for a while, given our current lack of a server.
Time for a blog rest.
So until I return early in 2007, have a WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS!

Today we're in the Mitchell Library in Glasgow to meet a wee group of bloggers. Our internet access at home is still off, so we're having problems with all the on-line work we do.
The library here offers free access to library members. We have membership now, so this is another place we can come to do some family research with records and at our fingertips.
The train took an age to come in. One line was closed, so we were diverted all round the houses. It'll be a slow train home too I imagine.

The wind blew as 'twad blawn its last;
The rattling showers rose on the blast;
The speedy gleams the darkness swallow'd;
Loud, deep, and lang, the thunder bellow'd:
That night, a child might understand,
The deil had business on his hand.
This little extract from one of my favourite Burns' poems says it all. Our weather of late has been excruciatingly awful. There appears to be almost as much water on land as there is in our rivers and lochs. The occasional blink of blue and light between the coverage of cloud reminds us that somewhere the sun is shining. And it will for us again. But it may be a while coming.
Unfortunately, the weather is playing havoc with our internet access. We have a wireless set-up that initiates in Helensburgh and is transmitted to us via Rosneath. It looks as if our days are numbered and we'll have to investigate the use of 3G technology. We'll cross that bridge when the time comes.
