Summer is here. We wait for it, moan about it NOT coming and when it DOES come we moan about it being too HOT!! Contrary we certainly are as far as weather is concerned.
At the moment it's cool. The sun is behind clouds,and Dougal and I are enjoying the lack of heat. Joan and Marshall are on their way to Carlisle, Joan to meet up with Kev and the girls, and Marsh to meet up with his pals before going back to school tomorrow. Keith and Brenda are in Carlisle tomorrow so hope to meet with Joan and Kev for lunch before they all go their separate ways.
Sooooooooooooo, Dougal and I are home alone and will hopefully enjoy a walk before it gets hot and a quiet day under the brolly once the sun comes out to try to melt us!

I don't share my mac with many people, but Marshall is an exception. Given that he's with us this week, I've leant him my mac prompting me to update my vaio, which should have been done a while ago. Extra ram and a complete update has returned it to a useful state.
It is a great little pc, very portable and quite powerful, but it doesn't quite rise to the status of my mac.It'll do for now, since I'm not spending too much time on the computer, prefering to be out in our wondeful weather to lap up the sunshine. Sun brings growth. Growth brings forth weeds......so I'll be out today with strimmer and hoe to do business!

It's just after six. The sun is already up. There's a stillness and warmth that offers promise for the coming day. Birds are already active punctuating the quiet with chatter and song. An engine here and there indicates the beginning of the morning rush to work. I've just watched a big black crow lift one of our bird feeders off its hook on the bird feeder stand and try to make off with it. That's why the feeder was twenty yards away when we came home from London and had to be reclaimed. A quick shooing and a subsequent wiring(in dressing gown and slippers) will hopefully halt any further removal of the feeders. What a cheeky bird!

Yesterday we had one of those typical west coast days. It began with heavy downpours in the morning which by afternoon had passed over to reveal blue skies and summer sunshine.
The morning offered time to catch up with washing, do a bit of beading, shop locally for food, a new tax disc and repeat prescriptions, before getting out into the afternoon sun to attend to growing plants and the potting-up of newly purchased ones. New compost was needed, together with bird food, so another trip to Rosneath was needed for supplies.
We decided that the local shops would be a priority this week after the recent spate of travelling, although the ferry may well beckon to take us further afield later in the week.
Our young and very tall visitor is more than happen to have nice long lies and is happily occupied into the wee small hours on computer and TV. He still makes a good cup of coffee and is a dab hand at shaking a martini 007 style.
The sun is already shining today, so it'll be an at-home pottering day. A bit of painting, a bit of window-cleaning and a bit of Dougal walking.

Yesterday was Joan's birthday, so we headed for Moffat to meet her brother Keith and his wife Brenda who are staying just south of the border for a week or two. A special birthday surprise was that Marshall, Joan's eldest grandson was with them and had his bag packed to come to stay with us for the remainder of this week. The boy, who we've had visiting every year since he was four, is now taller than his uncle Keith, and towering above the old crocs he'll be making coffee for this week.
It was lovely to spend time with them all, and of course we had to visit each and every one of the shops in this lovely wee town, with a purchase here and another purchase there.
By the time we were ready to travel home, the boot was full to bursting......surprise surprise.
Today it's raining. The busy-ness of the holiday week-end has passed and we HOPE to have a nice quiet week to recover from our spell of travelling.
And speaking of recovering.....our friend Dot has been in hospital for open heart surgery, and will be home later this week. She is an amazing lady, who looks the picture of health despite all that she has just been through. She is rarely seen without her make-up on, and even immediately after the op she had arranged for the lipstick to be near at hand to be put on as soon as she came round.
We saw her on Sunday, and were full of admiration. She is up and about walking more each day and raring to get home to allow the full healing process to begin. If the NHS need a positive advert for major surgery.....she is it!
